Be A Watermelon was the title of my sermon and we took a look at the first 14 verses of Ephesians 5. It is already a challenging/convicting chapter to begin with, and it was an honor to get to share this with the church.
"Therefore, be imitators of God, as beloved children..."(5.1)
What a challenging verse to start off with. To be imitators of God! To imitate someone, we should mimic them, copy them, have the same appearance as them, or resemble them. And what I challenged the church, and myself, was that we so many times SAY we do this but our actions and words say something totally different and we don't resemble or have the same appearance of God at all!
When Paul tells us that if we want to see Jesus then just look at him, that is imitating God. He did not say this out of arrogance or pride, but out of character and humility. He was doing what God wanted him to do, he was talking like God wanted him to, and living in a way that reflected, or imitated, God! And so, because of his character, he could say with confidence...just follow me!
What if the church started doing this? What if husbands/daddy's starting do this? What if wives/mommy's did this? What if this is the way that you ran your business? What if this is how you looked at your schooling? What if this directed the way that you were a teammate? Think of the impact that could be made, if we started imitating God in such a way that we (individually and the church) could say, if you want to see the great character, love, mercy, forgiveness, passion, perfectness, etc., of God, THEN JUST LOOK AT US!!!
We when, as Christians, say that we are Christians, we have to reflect, imitate, resemble, Christ! There has to be a change!
More to come in Part 2...
